So we did it after all and everyone seem to really enjoy it, I spent to much time running back and forth checking on things, trying to film the bands and take pics on everything else going on (which I got very little of. This started about an idea between me and Travis (the home owner) about a month ago having various local bands play and to have a potluck on top of that and if it went good to possibly try to make it a monthly thing, well then we were asked if we could add a touring band on the lineup. we agreed and then a band from Lancaster was added last minute. Went thru various versions of flyers and Dolly and Luna (Take Heed came up with the blue flyer) while I stayed with the Yogi and Park Ranger flyer which I used the picture originally from from a Agression flyer from 1986
Well I got over to Travis's house to help finish straightening and finish organizing stuff about 11 and then all of a sudden it was almost 4 pm and people started showing up and that was just out back by the garage, went inside and there was a bunch of people in the living room already too, hell all I did was run back and forth checking on shit and filming the bands so I didn't really get to talk to too many people and looking at the pictures I realized there was a lot of people there that I didn't even notice they were there. Hell to tell you the truth this was my first time organizing something like this and I had no clue what the fuck I was doing but thanks to you who helped me out, Rick and Keri for giving me ideas how to do this, since this was loosely based around Keri's Record Friday (which she has done for a few years), and to Dolly and Luna, since they have set up and organized other house shows there and were always a blast, and most of all to Travis (who helped me turn an idea into reality) who's house this was held at And most of all to all of you that showed up, brought food and had a great time, and too all the bands that played GRUNCLE DEE JAY, SCOOWOP!, TAKE HEED and VISCERATE (the locals) and to MASCOT YEAR from Lancaster and MOCK EXECUTION from Chicago and on tour. There was a lot more people then I thought showed up and looking back at the pictures I realize there was a lot of people that I didn't even realize was there, well that's what I get running around from filming the bands and checking on what was going on in the back yard (and trying to grab a smoke inbetween)
So up first was GRUNCLE DEE JAY don't know really how to describe their sound, a little jazzy with hints of classical mixed with emo, hell I don't know but these youngsters could definitely play. https://www.instagram.com/gruncledeejay/
Next up were SCOOWOP some more youngsters but some more talented musicians, I had seen this band just a few weeks earlier at a show at Jerry's Pizza and was impressed with them. A little ska and punk and they covered Operation Ivy and Greenday (which were pretty damn good). https://www.instagram.com/scoowop.band_official/
Next up was TAKE HEED (guess you could call them the house band, since they practice there and the singers dad owns the house). Consisting of a couple members who have play in GOVERNMENT SURVEILLANCE, SCUMCUNTS, TAKE HEED are some great hardcore/fastcore. https://www.instagram.com/take_heed_bkfd/
If you like 80s style thrash metal then Bako's VISCERATE are your go to local band, great people and they've been around for a bit now and every time I've seen them it reminds me of seeing a thrash band back in the mid 80's. https://www.instagram.com/viscerate.band/ https://viscerate.bandcamp.com/album/everybody-dies https://open.spotify.com/artist/2pXWIAHtUsejdFDxIr8Igt
MASCOT YEAR are a 2 piece from Lancaster, California emo/screamo type band (I think) I never heard of them until a couple of weeks before the show (and thank you Luna for wanting to add them) https://www.instagram.com/mascotyear/ https://mascotyear.bandcamp.com/album/mascot-year
The Punk Rock Potluck was originally gonna be with a few local bands but I was hit up by GLOOM AND GLORY if I could add a touring band from Chicago on the house show (which I'm glad I did) and another band I had never heard of until then. So now we had MOCK EXECUTION playing some raw punk/hardcore and they were great I'm glad I said I would add them. https://mockexecutionpunk.bandcamp.com/album/killed-by-mock-execution
Here's a few pics from that day and a few were pics that Paul Fiebrantz took and a little video that Keri Bryson had made of the day
Thank you to everyone who came out and supported or played, this was originally started to try to help strengthen and unify our local scene by having different bands play and over a potluck of food (which we had an amazing amount of people who brought food) and at a house where it felt like a family get together. Get to meet and know people who you have probably seen at other shows but that was it, helping bands showcase their sound to other people who might not have heard the band/bands before. I wanted to try to make this a monthly thing but I got busy with other projects I'm doing (besides all the damn Dr's appointments and the constant pain I'm always in) so this month got put off but we plan on doing another one soon but we are not trying to piss off the neighbors to much, so once a month we will try to do another Punk Rock Potluck unless Dolly is doing a house show which she has one coming the first week of next month So maybe at the end of the month or most likely the following month, but we really would like to make this a monthly thing with different local bands playing each time. If any local bands or you know of other bands that would like to play contact me and I'll work something out. And to recently find out there will be a house show next month so we are working on doing another PUNK ROCK POTLUCK in August (toward the end of the month) I have lots of pics of the bands that I took so you'll find them all after it .
